LONGVIEW LOBOS (3-1) VS MESQUITE SKEETERS (4-0)
DATE/TIME/LOCATION:
Friday, September 28th at 7:30 PM from E.H. Hanby Stadium in Mesquite, Texas.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The meeting will be the 11th all-time between the two schools with Longview leading the series 9-1-0. Last season, the Lobos jumped out to a 40-0 lead late into the 2nd quarter before Mesquite finally got on the board with less than a minute left in the half. The two teams traded two touchdowns in the second half as the Lobos rolled to a 54-21 victory. Longview completely dominated the game as they mounted over 500 yards of offense, affectively ending the game before half time. The win extended Longview's winning streak over Mesquite to eight games and improved the Lobos to 6-0-0 all-time in district contests when facing the Skeeters. The first meeting between the two schools came in 1963, a 34-20 victory for the Lobos. Mesquite's lone victory came in 1964 when they knocked off Longview by a 3-0 scoreline. The Lobos are 4-0-0 all-time against the Skeeters at E.H. Hanby Stadium. The most memorial game between the two schools came in 2007, when Longview came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Skeeters, 22-14, to win their fourth consecutive district championship at the time. Longview's lone meeting with Mesquite away from Hanby or Lobo Stadium came in 2006 when the Lobos defeated Mesquite in the final two minutes of play at Mesquite Memorial Stadium, 21-17.

GAME CAPSULE:
For the first time in 15 seasons, the Lobos rolled out of Lufkin following a game with a victory. Longview's first play from scrimmage set the tone for the rest of the game. Following a Longview turnover on their one yard line, Lufkin grabbed their only lead of the game at 14-7. After one quarter, tied at 14 all, the Lobos went to work and ended the half up 31-14 on their long time rivals. Two more touchdowns in the second half gave the Lobos a 45-14 victory at Abe Martin Stadium, ending an eight game losing streak at Lufkin. Longview's 31 point victory was it's largest margin of victory since a 44-6 victory at Lufkin in 1976. Now Longview turns their attention to district play, where the Lobos and Skeeters meet for the seventh time in nine seasons. Longview and Mesquite have opened district play against one another for four of the six previous seasons that the two have been district teammates. Longview rolls into the game having won 11 consecutive district openers. Longview's last district opening loss came at the hands of John Tyler, 27-14, in 2000. Mesquite has not won a district opener since a 20-0 victory over John Tyler in 2007. The Lobos also roll into E.H. Hanby Stadium with a perfect 8-0-0 record all-time at the stadium. Longview's first game at Hanby stadium came in 1963 when Longview knocked off Mesquite, 34-20. Since, the Lobos have knocked off the Skeeters three more times at their home stadium, including a 54-21 victory over the Skeeters last year. Longview has outscored the Skeeters 102-21 in the past two meetings at E.H. Hanby Stadium. Following the game on Friday, Mesquite will become the 18th all-time team to face Longview more than 10 times. The Lobos are 6-3-1 all-time on September 28th, with their last loss on the date coming in 1956.
