Longview vs Palestine - at Lobo Stadium - October 9th, 1953 - via Dallas Morning News
Palestine bows, 27-20, to Longview George Myers, Longview's 180 pound quarterback, scored two touchdowns and passed for a third in a brilliant individual performance here Friday night to bring Longview's Lobos their first victory of the season as they defeated the Palestine Wildcats, 27 to 20. Myers completed twenty of thirty-five passes for 298 yards and ran the team the full time as it rolled up thirty first downs against the team which had been rarrted fourth in state triple A rankings this week. The Wildcats scored first with Jack Joyce, a 199-pound fullback, plunging 9 yards. The Lobos tied it a few minute later and went ahead 14 to 7 near the end of the half. They added another touchdown in the third period when Myers went over from the 1 but the Wildcats bounced back with another score in the same quarter. On the first play of the fourth period, Myers passed 20 yards to Robert Bayliss in the end zone for the final Longview touchdown. On the next play after the kickoff, Joyce passed twenty yards to John Ousley who ran 38 yards for the last Palestine score.
