Longview raps Kimball

The Longview Lobos handed Dallas Kimball a 23-0 licking here Friday night as the Knights were stymied the entire game.

Longview struck first in the opening quarter with quarterback Roland Whitehurst carrying around right end with 7:26 left. the kick after was no good.

At the 8:50 mark in the second quarter, quarterback Mark Hill passed 31 yards to end Ralph Blount. Blount kicked the PAT, and then followed it up moments later with a 30-yard field goal making it 16-0.

With 2:57 left in the third quarter, Longview's Ray Wright ducked over right side from the one for the final tally. Blount's toe added the PAT and the game, so far as Kimball was concerned.

Althought Kimball tried hard, they just couldn't find the right key. Three Kimball standouts, left half Ricky Martin, fullback Wayne Knofvoc, and quarterback Mike McCain worked hard, but couldn't hack it.

Martin carried 14 times for 62 yards, while Knofvoc cracked 12 times for 30 yards. McCain led his team, but couldn't find the right combinations.

Kimball was outclassed in total yardage 286 to 115, and lost three fumbles. They also took six penalties for 80 yards.

Friars rally, 27-21

Bishop Lynch dedicated its new Roffino Stadium then added to the festivities with an exciting 27-21 victory over the Longview Lobos Friday night.

Longview opened scoring in the first period, driving 22 yards following an interception. Quarterback Mark Hill hit Billy Price on a 5-yard scoring toss and Ralph Blount booted his first of three conversions.

The Friars' talented kick, Steve Valek closed the gap to 7-3 late in the first period with a 25-yard field.

Larry Ratcliffe moved Bishop Lynch into the lead taking a pitchout and darting 64-yards, inaugurating a see-saw second quarter. The winners upped the count to 13-7 on Valek's second field goal, a 40-yard shot.

Longview rebounded minutes later on Roland Whitehurst's 27-yard toss to Sid Sistrunk which capped a 62-yard drive and a 14-13 halftime lead.

The Lobos tried to put the game away in the third quarter driving 76 yards as Ray Wright dived over from the 1 for a 21-12 lead.

The Friars, however, cranked up behind David Kiowski and Ratcliffe on the ground to dominate the fourth quarter.

Nick Nichols' 21-yard toss to Eddie Stock capped a 62-yard drive fro Bishop Lynch, but the conversion run failed.

Down by two points, the Friars exploded for 54 yards in two quick plays as Kiowski raced up the middle for the final 23 yards. A 2-point pass to Cary Tobolka wrapped it up.
