Friars rally, 27-21
Bishop Lynch dedicated its new Roffino Stadium then added to the festivities with an exciting 27-21 victory over the Longview Lobos Friday night.
Longview opened scoring in the first period, driving 22 yards following an interception. Quarterback Mark Hill hit Billy Price on a 5-yard scoring toss and Ralph Blount booted his first of three conversions.
The Friars' talented kick, Steve Valek closed the gap to 7-3 late in the first period with a 25-yard field.
Larry Ratcliffe moved Bishop Lynch into the lead taking a pitchout and darting 64-yards, inaugurating a see-saw second quarter. The winners upped the count to 13-7 on Valek's second field goal, a 40-yard shot.
Longview rebounded minutes later on Roland Whitehurst's 27-yard toss to Sid Sistrunk which capped a 62-yard drive and a 14-13 halftime lead.
The Lobos tried to put the game away in the third quarter driving 76 yards as Ray Wright dived over from the 1 for a 21-12 lead.
The Friars, however, cranked up behind David Kiowski and Ratcliffe on the ground to dominate the fourth quarter.
Nick Nichols' 21-yard toss to Eddie Stock capped a 62-yard drive fro Bishop Lynch, but the conversion run failed.
Down by two points, the Friars exploded for 54 yards in two quick plays as Kiowski raced up the middle for the final 23 yards. A 2-point pass to Cary Tobolka wrapped it up.
