Lobos lose, but win flip Longview lost and won here Friday night in District 14-AAAA football. The Lobos lost to Lufkin, 12-3, to throw the district into a 3-way tie with Lufkin and defending Class AAAA state champion John Tyler. However, the Lobos won the post-game coin toss to gain a playoff spot and will meet Plano in bi-district. Greg Cannon was the big playmaker for Lufkin, getting 84 yards on 18 carriers and scoring on runs of 2 and 9 yards, all in the third quarter. Teammate Pelt Brown added 72 yards on five carriers. Longview, the No. 2 ranked team in the state, got its three points in the second quarter when Tommy Thomas ended a 73-yard drive of 14 plays with a 36-yard field goal 10 seconds before halftime.
